Training of Heart - Discovering the Real Me Curriculum

The "Discovering the Real Me" Curriculum is scheduled for 1st through 12th grade. This is the perfect opportunity to discuss virtues with your child. When making time each week to complete the Discovering the Real Me curriculum, a family also makes the habit of communicating on deeper issues of life giving each child in the family their special time. The online curriculum (.pdf files) focuses on issues specifically addressed for each age group.

Elementary School Books 1-4  The elementary school curriculum focuses on classic fairy tales which were designed to take children on a voyage into a more peaceful and righteous world. Utilizing themes from Aesop’s Fables, the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson, the stories aim at building character in children, often using animal or magical characters which are universally appealing to young children.

Middle School Books 5-8  From ten to fourteen years of age, children become adolescents. Their worlds are turned upside down as they develop feelings for the opposite sex and their bodies go through enormous changes, often creating tumultuous challenges. The Discovering the Real Me curriculum for this age use realistic life situations and utilize moral dilemmas and decision-making in order to lead the students to make better choices in their lives. Paramount in this period of discovery is a need to find purpose and meaning in life and to develop a positive identity.

High School Books 9-12 Youth aged fourteen to eighteen years of age look at the world in a much more complex manner than they did in their younger years. The complexity of their developmental tasks can make these years challenging, particularly in today’s socially toxic environment. The character education series includes character-based sexuality education which allows for youth to explore and discover the premises for healthy relationships with the opposite sex. The curriculum presents stories and situations with themes of the development of virtues such as mutual respect, taking responsibility, developing empathy and compassion, and learning how to be productive citizens. Themes of leadership, communication and relationship skills, and preparing for life in society beyond high school are also explored.
